Building a Simple Calculator Using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Introduction
In this blog post, I will walk you through the process of creating a simple yet functional calculator using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This project helped me sharpen my front-end development skills and provided a hands-on experience with DOM manipulation in JavaScript.
Project Overview
The calculator allows users to perform basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It features a clean and responsive UI designed using CSS and dynamic functionality powered by JavaScript.
Technologies Used
- HTML for structuring the calculator layout
- CSS for styling and responsiveness
- JavaScript for implementing the logic and interactivity
Development Process
1. Creating the HTML Structure
I used a simple div-based layout to create the calculator interface. The calculator consists of a display screen and buttons for numbers and operations.
2. Styling with CSS
I designed a modern, minimalistic UI with a responsive layout. CSS Grid and Flexbox were used to arrange buttons properly. Hover effects and transitions were added for a better user experience.
3. Adding Functionality with JavaScript
I used event listeners to capture button clicks and update the display. A function was implemented to evaluate expressions and show results. Error handling was added to prevent invalid calculations.
Conclusion
This project was a great learning experience, reinforcing my knowledge of JavaScript and front-end development.
